José Fernando Valencia (Percussion)

José Fernando Valencia is the former principal percussionist of The National Wind Symphony of Colombia. He has performed with the Symphony Youth Orchestra of Colombia, The Bogota Philharmonic, The North Arkansas Symphony, and The Fort Smith Symphony Orchestras. Mr. Valencia received his BM from the Universidad Javeriana (Bogota-Colombia) and his MM from The University of Arkansas. He later went to Temple University to complete the professional certificate of studies with Alan Abel of The Philadelphia Orchestra. From a very young age, and parallel to his studies, Mr. Valencia has been involved in the performance and research of his Afro-Colombian musical roots and Afro-Caribbean music, with additional academic studies in Colombia and The Instituto Superior de Artes in Habana-Cuba. He is musician and member of the cast of the national TV show “What’s up que pasa!” Fernando Valencia is currently a freelance percussionist in the Philadelphia-NY area, and percussion instructor for AMLA School of Music and Settlement Music School in Philadelphia PA.
